The maiden name of Mary Jane Shetter is unknown at this time. Could she
be the daughter of Philip Barger?
The list of the heirs of Philip Barger is found in Deed Book I J, p
111 in Montgomery County, and is as follows: Christian, Adam, Eve, who
married Dangerfield Dobyns, Catherine, who married John D. Helms, Jacob,
Frederick, Jane, who married Martin Shatter, and Mary, who married John
Ballinger. The same deed refers to Casper, Philip and John as sons of
Philip Barger
The records for the dispersal of Jane Shetter's estate were found in
Shelby Co., TN naming Benjamin Thompson as administrator. His
relationship to Mary Jane Shetter is unknown.
STATE OF TENNESSEE, SHELBY COUNTY COURT
KNOW ALL MEN BY THESE PRESENTS, That we Benjamin Thompson,
H. C. Massey and J. J.
Eckles all of the county of Shelby and State of Tennessee, are held and
firmly bound unto the State of Tennessee, in the sum of Six hundred
dollars, to be paid to the said Governor and his successors in the office
or assigns, for which payment well and truly to be made we bind
ourselves, and each of our heirs, executors and administrators, jointly
and severally, firmly by these presents. Sealed with our seals and dated
this 8th day of November 1848.
The condition of the obligation is such, that if the above bound
Benjamin Thompson administrator of all and singular the goods and
chattles, rights and credits of Jane Shetter deceased, do make, or cause
to be made a true and perfect inventory of all and singular the goods and
chattles, rights and credits of the deceased, which have or shall come to
the hands, knowledge or possession of said Benjamin Thompson or into the
hands or possession of any person or persons for and the same so made, do
exhibit, or cause to be exhibited to the County Court of said County
within ninety days from the date of these presents, and the same goods,
chattles and credits of the deceased at the time of her death, which at
any time hereafter shall come into the hands or possession of the said
Benjamin Thompson or into the hands or possessions of any other said
person or persons, for him do well and truly administer according to law,
and do further make or cause to be made, a true and just account of his
said administration within two years after the date of these presents,
and all the rest and residue of said goods, chattles, and credits which
shall be found remaining upon the said administrators account, the same
being first examined and allowed by the court of the said County, shall
deliver and pay unto such persons, respectively to whom the same shall be
due pursuant to the true intent and meaning of the act in that case, made
and provided, and if it shall appear that any Will or Testament was made
by the deceased, and the executor or executors therein named do exhibit
the same into Court, Making a request to have the same allowed and
approved of accordingly, if the said above bounden Benjamin Thompson
being there to required, to render the said letters of administration (
approbation of such Testament being first had and made in the said Court)
then this obligation to be void and of no effect, otherwise to remain in
full force and effect.
