Note for: Jesse Smith, ABT 1785 - 4 OCT 1837 Index
[leo smith anc.GED]
There is some reason to think that Jesse Smith was born in NC of Abraham
S mith, son of Drury Smith in Rowan or Anson County. This has not been
prov ed. Jesse's brothers may have been Drury, Jeremiah, Meacham, and
Absolo m. Absolom and Meacham followed the same migratory path i.e.
Wilson C o, TN and Scott/Morgan Co, IL. See genforum.com Smith pages
for more det ails.

There are numerous land transactions in Wilson County Tennessee for Jes

rn in Illinois about 1825.
The Jesse Smith family is found in the 1830 Morgan County Illinois censu

app ears to be deceased by 1830. The family is also found in an 1835

Drury Smith states in the 1873 Scott County Illinois Atlas that he ca me

Birth dates estimated from IL 1830 census.
Drury lists his parents' birthplace as Kentucky in the IL 1880 census.
How ever, Rachael Smith Little lists her parents' birthplace as North
Caroli na in an 1880 Gentry County Missouri. At this time, I do not know
of a ny other Smith children (2nd generation) living in 1880 except
Burrel w ho stated Tennessee? in 1880 Perry County IL census. North
Carolina see ms most likely as Kentucky was very sparsely settled in the
1780's and 90' s.
