Lots
of info on this site. Think of Smith Official All as being
broken up into two main parts-the first part is the
family
information and research part; the second is
DNA
Reporting and results. The family lines and information are
listed on the forums, by early ancestor, in order to group them
with related Smiths/Schmidts/Smythes/Smyths/Smidts et al. All
Smiths or those who research Smith/Schmidt/Smyth/Smythe are welcome to post on the forums, you simply have to be
registered and logged in to do so to deter spammers;
you do not
have to be logged in to read, only to post. Because we
welcome DNA results from all vendors, you
can
post your markers and either
submit your tree here or email your tree to
info@smithsworldwide.org so we can list on the forum.
Your first post(s) will be held and approved so that we can
make sure spammers aren't registering to post junk. We chose to
use a forum so that you can, logged in, post and reply as you
want, edit your own information associated with your membername,
as opposed to the admins of the project being a bottleneck. Most
of all Smith Official All participants were sent a membername, If
you do not have a membername or you have trouble logging on,
please immediately email
info@smithsworldwide.org and we will fix for you. Bear in
mind that Smiths Official DNA is a volunteer project affiliated
with FTDNA, we are not paid, and not always available
immediately but will reply back as soon as possible.
Here
is a
link to ALL the forums you can post on. One, for example, is
Most Wanted and Queries- Have a brick wall ancestor? Post him or
her! One of the forums,
Smith Family Information and
Lines forum is maintained by the administrator and cannot be
posted on directly at the top level, ie, adding a new ancestor,
until approved. The reason for this is that we want to see if
your family line might fit with someone else first, and if so,
we move it into that group. If not, we start a new group and add
you as the member associated with it.
We also have an
ancestral photo section, DAR/SAR reports, early ancestor report,
location reports and census lookups for those we have identified
on the site. |

For the Smith Official DNA Project (All Locations) a minimum
of 25, or better, 37 markers, is strongly recommended. Many times one can appear
to match other kits but the match falls apart after 12 markers. We do not
attempt to match kits into groups on less than 25 with the exception of a strong
paper trail or known family kinship with another tester. Smith Official DNA Project
