    Notes
    • Has anyone noticed the gap in ages of John Pattie Smith?

His daughter Samantha E. Smith born 20 Oct 1824 in Greenville SC and the next child Jonathan Calloway Smith born 25 September 1831 Geenville SC -- a gap of 7 years. This promotes the theory of perhaps some children died at birth or either there was a first wife for the first 7 children's?

The 10th child was adm of the estate of his parents

  • Notes
    • Research of Linda Smith Cheek

I Linda Smith Cheek just realized something as I have been putting this tree on Ydna Smith site (June 2017) and now it brings up a question?

      His children's births start at
      1815
      1816
      1817
      1820
      1821
      1822
      1824
---------------Notice this gap of 7 years, does this denote two wives? As this is not normal

      1831
      1832
      1833
      1836
      1837
      1839

Questions? Who could be the other wife

John Pattie Smith ydna R-M269-10 did for me (Linda Smith Cheek) by George M. Smith of Simpsonville SC.

In trying to make a settlement of the estate of their father, John Pattie Lindsay Smith his name is listed as John Pattie L. Smith and the son who is adm. Is listed as John P. L. Smith. I have much on this estate if anyone is interested as just to much to type. This estate started when the mother Margaret Smith Smith died in Oct 1865 and the estate was still not settled in 1871 and everyone wanted their part. Linda Smith Cheek

The records of Fork Shoals Church show John Pattie Smith a member there he was given by his father, Alexander Smith, the plantation and tract of land at his fathers death. John sold this land and bought property on Maple Creek nearer to Greenville then sold this and bought land near Bethuel Church.

Death Records kept by James Anderson of Greenville Co SC...rest assured of the dates being correct as my father was a very particular man. Sg: T.F. Anderson

In 1871 John Pattie L. Smith petitioned the court to allow him to sell all the notes and accounts belonging to the estate of his father John P.L Smith.
On 26 Oct 1875 John's brother J. Calloway Smith petitioned the court for an accounting by John L. Smith who he accused of mishandling the estate and request that he be ordered to pay the inheritors their due. A hearing was ordered 9 Dec 1875 and on 10 Dec 1875 a note was attached to the file, this case continued until 28 Dec 1875 by reason of the absence of the attorney for the Petitioners. Greenville Co SC Probate Court

28 Dec 1875 answer of John L. Smith he admits the allegations of the first section and also of the second section and the death of his mother as alledged, but denies that he has converted the proceeds of the personal property or any part thereof to his own use. that the Petitioner and certain others of the legatees of said estate purchased at the sale of personal property largely in excess of what they are entitled to from said estate and have heitherto wholly failed and neglected to pay to this defendent the overplus, that if they will so pay he can once make a full and fair settlement of said estate.
