      James and wife are buried at the Ellison-Wilson Family Cemetery, Colonial Dr., Brushy Creek Rd. Anderson Co SC, just across the Pickens Co line. His tombstone was broken many years ago and a new one was erected in 1979 by descendants and the death date is wrong. Others buried with stones that could be read are" Mary E. Ellison b. 10 July 1872 d. 28 Dec 1874--James Prather b. 6 Nov 1856 d. 2 July 1857--11 rocks marking graves. In 1996 a housing development was built around this cemetery and most all destroyed except the stone of James Ellison. Before this project you could see the old marks of wagon tracts around the knoll where the cemetery was. By Linda Smith Cheek

Ellison, daughters Barbara and Nancy and Mary Prater note I have against her husband for the purchase of land to be forgotten, wife Mary my grandson James M. Ellison exor. dated 7 Jan 1873 Wit: W.S. Pickens, L.V. Jones and B.C. Johnson--contested by Joel Ellison your petitioner one of the sons and legates of James Ellison, late of Anderson County departed this life in 1873 leaving of force his last will and testament with H.A. Ellison another of his sons exor. dated 8 July 1873. Hugh A. Ellison qualified as exor 10 July 1873. Barbary Johnson says she is a daughter of James Ellison dec'd and Nancy Ballentine says she stayed with her father James Ellison. Anderson Co SC Microfilm Roll 2954.

      Nancy Ellison Ballentine d. 2 Jan 1895 joined Easley First Baptist Church 9 Nov 1873 one of the oldest members, from Georges Creek Baptist Church (First Baptist Church Records Easley SC). She joined Georges Creek 17 Sept 1859 (Georges Creek Church Records) m. Richard E. Ballentine d. January 1863 Pickens Co SC.
