The Modal Baseline takes the frequency of a given marker and puts
one with the highest count in each field. So, if there are 6 kits where 4 have a
14 in Marker393 but two have 15, the modal baseline field Marker393 will have 14
because the count is 4 vs 2. Differences in the kits based on these modal values
is shown in white with red text. Modal baselines are subject to change if, as
more people join a given group, the frequency counts change.

*-For the
Smith Official DNA project, a minimum of 25 markers, better, 37
markers is strongly
recommended. We generally do not do group matches at 12
markers without a paper trail or known kinship.

For the Smith Official DNA Project (All Locations) a minimum of 25, or better, 37 markers, is strongly recommended. Many times one can appear to match other kits but the match falls apart after 12 markers. We do not attempt to match kits into groups on less than 25 with the exception of a strong paper trail or known family kinship with another tester.
