The John Smith in this line does not appear to be the same John Smith, son of Henry Smith, who came from England in 1637 with wife Elizabeth and two oldest sons. He settled, according to the History of the Town of Medfield Massachusetts 1650-1886, in Dedham and went to Medfield, MA in 1651-52.

He does have a child John. According to the book above, John had a wife Lydia and was in Dedham in 1660, and then went to Medfield, MA. Lists three children, John who was in Medfield and thence Canada, Lydia, mentioned in her grandfather (Henry)'s will, and Henry who died in 1673.

From another standpoint, there is a YDNA tester for Henry Smith that can trace his line to Medfield MA and his YDNA does not match the YDNA of the John Smith m Jael Packard line. That one is in Smith DNA Matched Group GRP-I-M253-9.  The John Smith/Jael Packard line needs additional markers to create a baseline and the Smith DNA Project welcomes additional YDNA testers for either line.

Finally, the migration trajectory for these 2 lines are in different locations. John Smith/Jael Packards descendants appear to be in Bristol Co MA, and again, the John Smith m Jael Packard, if the History of the Town of Medfield MA is to be believed, cannot be the same John Smith who married Lydia.
