I don't know if he fits, but in my tree is an  Absalom SMITH, Birth 20 Nov 1757 in Amwell Twp., Hunterdon Co., New Jersey Colony;  death 28 Dec 1834 in Williamsburg Twp., Clermont Co., Ohio. He was a Private of Infantry, signing up at Ringoe's Tavern in Amwell. After the War he married an otherwise unidentified Susannah 'Susan' circa 1780, as the War was grinding to an end, and in 1795 they moved down the river on a flatboat to Clermont Co. Ohio via Redstone, Old Fort, Pennsylvania, and claimed his bonus land for his military service.

My 4th gen grandfather is the same Absalom Smith mentioned by commenter By Gary1876 (whom I believe is now deceased. As a side note, there are several members' family trees on Ancestry.com that list Susannah/Susan's maiden name is Kimball. THIS IS INCORRECT.  Susannah Kimball was the wife of Absalom Wamsley Smith - not our grandfather. Any questions, please contact me.
