Some stats and lines. All members of this group, which includes Charles Smith b 1680 Virginia m Grace Sawyer, Elijah Smith b 1818 North Carolina m Martha E Scroggs, James Turner Smith b 1810 North Carolina m Sarah T Farmer, John Smith of Louisa County, Virginia, and John Wesley Smith b 1868 Texas m Laura Belle Whitley, are YDNA testers. We do not yet have a Big-Y tester for any of the kits; suggest that if any of hte members do Big-Y it would be good to have at least one Charles Smith Big-Y tester, then the others who do not readily fit with Charles to do Big-Y to see if the terminal SNPs are the same. 

If you, reader, are a male Smith who descends directlyi from one of these line, we suggest you consider doing a YDNA test - YDNA goes male to male to male, so does not look at other collatoral surname lines.
