I am looking for any information that would link Samuel Smith born 1814 Rawley Springs, to Lorenzo Frederick Smith.  Ancestry.com suggested that Lorenzo was Samuel's father.  My branch kit has put me in the branch with another who is a decendant of Lorenzo.  Since I am all new to this I am trying to connect the dots.
I uploaded results from 23andMe and just ordered a Ancestry DNA kit.
Anyone out there have any information that might help?
Mary

Hi Mary,   Welcome to the group of lost SMITHs!    Because ANY first name with the last name "SMITH" is pretty ambiguous, the more details the better, for narrowing down any possible connections.   In your post, you mentioned  "Rawley Springs" and the first question that popped to my mind, was "in what state"? (assuming it is in the USA, which is NOT neccessarily "a given").

Don't worry, we're all here attempting to "connect the dots" but the more you can specifically describe the Samuel SMITH that YOU are searching for, the better.   You did GREAT to include a birth year and a place.    I've seen MANY posts that just give a name which does little good if searching for a SMITH.    I did a quick "Find" on this website and found 1,308 Samuel SMITHs   (I should add that a lot of those are Samuel as a middle name since the first name in the search includes middle names as well but you see the problem.)    I hope you find someone sharing the same Samuel Smith.

Hi imaquila! Thank you so much for pointing out that I forgot to add Rawley Springs, Rockingham County, VA.  He married Sarah Cooper in  1834 in Rockingham, Virginia. He died in February 1886.  He is buried in Mount Clinton, Rockingham County, VA.  Ancestry has Samuel T Smith but I have no idea what the T might stand for.  His occupation was listed as shoemaker.  His son was also William T Smith born in 1836 and married Rebbeca Bush.  One of their children, Charles L. Smith born about 1868 In Rockingham County, Va was my great grandfather.  He married Adaline "Addie" Gentry.  Both are buried at Cherry Grove United Methodist cemetery in Linville, VA.

Hoping someone on here may either know of these families or have some information.  Thanks - Mary
