CommentID 606 I believe I am related to Bryant Smith of #3 above. He is the son of #2 David Smith and Ann Bryant. Bryant Smith married his cousin Dolly Bryant. Therefore my line would be both Smith and Bryant. Dolly is the daughter of Peter Bryant Sr (I'm using Sr and Jr for purposes of discussion) I am dna related to Peter Bryant Jr born abt 1767 and I believe that Peter Jr. b. abt. 1767 sister to Dolly and a son of Peter Bryan Sr. In 1788 Peter Bryant (Jr.) my line, is in Hawkins in Captain John Blair's Unit. That Unit went to Chatannooga chasing Dragging Canoe. Dolly is in Grainger (next to Hawkins) and in 1830 Peter Bryant Jr. is in the Grainger census. He moved to Whitley County, Ky in 1809 but may have been visiting his brother in law Bryant Smith and wife Dolly, in 1830 in Grainger. I gave my FTDNA Kit #when I signed up for this site, and I am hoping I might match someone from the Smith Line. Unless you are only doing male Ydna. I would be both Smith and Bryant. Dolly Bryant and Peter Bryant Jr. are on my mother's paternal side. She is Marguerite H. Bryant born 1918. I am also a Smith on my mother's my mother Marguerite Bryant's maternal side, her grandmother is Martha Ann (Smith) Marler from Tracy City Tn. I'm Smith on two sides. I'm new to this site so any help appreciated. Jackie: Yet to prove I am from David and Ann (Smith) Bryant > Peter Bryant Sr but firm from > Peter Bryant Jr born 1767 > Morgan Bryant b 1807 Whitley > James Morgan Bryant 1844 Whitley > Henry Granville Bryant 1864 Whitley > David Craig Bryant b. 1892 Whitley > Marguerite H. Bryant b. 1918. Any help appreciated. I will answer any questions. | |||

CommentID 613 Hello, Have you seen the account of the will of William Smith b 21 May 1724 North Farnham Parish Richmond Co VA who wrote his will 1797 Shenandoah Co VA? In case you haven't seen the will or the account, it is very important because it names the - at that time - the living descendants of his brothers, David and Samuel Smith. He had no children, himself. Abstracted by me, the account of the will reads: "The estate of William Smith, Dec'd in account with Michael Crouse, Exr: 1802 - 6 March 1802. Cash paid William Hawkins for making Coffin for Elizabeth Smith. William Smith acted as POA for Alexander Smith. Cash paid William Smith as attorney in fact for George Long and wife, Elizabeth. Cash paid William Smith attorney in fact for John Smith. Cash paid William Smith attorney in fact for William Millican. Cash paid William Smith attorney in fact for David Smith. Cash paid William Smith attorney in fact for Edward Wyatt. Cash paid William Smith attorney in fact for Griffin Daubin. Cash paid William Smith attorney in fact for George Smith. Cash paid to William Smith, son of William Smith, deceased. Cash paid William Smith, Guardian for Peggy, Clary, Archibald, heirs of Samuel Smith, deceased. Cash paid David Smith attorney in fact for Bryan Smith. Cash paid David Smith attorney in fact for Joseph Smith. Cash paid David Evans and Ann, his wife, Heirs of Samuel Smith, deceased. Cash paid to David Evans for five of the heirs of Samuel Smith, deceased, rent of the Old Place." According to the above mentioned account: Samuel Smith deceased 1783/4 children or heirs: Son, Samuel, "heir at law" of Samuel, meaning he is the oldest son, as he says. Son, William, who is guardian of Peggy, Clary, and Archibald. Daughter, Ann, who married David Evans. Daughter, Sarah, who married, Edward Wyatt. Daughter, Elizabeth, who married George Long. Daughter, Mary Ann, who married Griffin Dobyns. Note, the VA law of primogeniture demands the oldest son gets all at death. Info on John Smith, abovementioned: Jefferson Co TN Will Book 2, by Douthat, 1811-1826, pp 105-109. Sale of estate of John Smith, April 1815. Some of the buyers were: Elizabeth Smith, David Smith, William Smith....Inventory of John Smith, dec'd, taken by David Smith, 8 March 1813. I descend through Sarah, d/o Samuel Smith who married Edward Wyatt. Glad to answer any questions. Briefly - Their daughter, Margaret married Daniel Maddox 1796, Greenbrier Co VA. Their daughter, Elizabeth A Maddox, b 1797, in VA. About 1800, the Scarborough, Wyatt, an several other families left Greenbrier for Anderson Co TN according to Scarborough family information. In Anderson Co TN, Elizabeth Maddox, abovementioned, married Aaron Hawkins, 1814.. They left ca 1817 for the Yellow Banks (Owensborough KY) where their second child, Mahala Jane was born, who married, James McGray. Mahala and James McGray moved across the Ohio River to Posey Co Indiana where they died "on or before 13 Feb 1863". Their daughter, Elizabeth C. McGray married Georg Becker, s/o Johannes and Katarina Heinzerling Becker. Their oldest son, John Becker, had a daughter, Laura Elizabeth who married Frank Sydney Gebhardt and lived Vanderburgh Co IN. My dad spent a lot of time with his "Grandpa Becker" growing up in the West Side of Evansville, Indiana. None of this earlier information has anything to do with the Smith linage, but I thought you might wonder how I am related to Samuel, William, and David Smith b North Farnham Parish, Richmond Co VA. Of course, I have much more information and you may have questions I would be glad to answer if I can. JeanneB |
