Smith DNA Project Status - 11/26/2024
Posted by smithsworldwide in Smith DNA Project Updates on November 26, 2024 Views:(24) Replies (0) PostID:3632 Please Login/Register to reply to this topic First, 5412 members on FamilyTreeDNA (Smith Official DNA Project) plus of course there are many more on the tree side who have not yet done DNA for comparison and, hah, NEED to. If you are a male Smith, Schmidt, Smyth etc, that is, your last name is Smith and you are a male OR you are kin to a male Smith and can have him do a YDNA test as your representative, please do. Now, just a heads up for this season. As members may know, I at least (DK) have been on vacay some of this fall and winter season, out of the country, it's Thanksgiving week and I'm also planning another out of country vacay for the Xmas holidays. That means if you sent in or send in an email about anything, you might be slow to get a reply. I am currently looking at 84 emails, hope to catch up before Thanksgiving day but might not. The admins in this project have different parts they work on, one, Craig, is in charge of the Activity Feed, for example and Donnie (Lori) and Drew do Facebook. If you wish to come help out by being an admin on this very large project, please send an email to info@smithsworldwide.org Note that FTDNA has completed doing a new improved version of the YDNA Report. It has the same URL as before but is now called the YDNA Results Overview. Notice that you can choose to see everyone broken out in subgroups or uncheck the box. Same thing to show colorized versus not, and can show all non-STR members. Keep in mind that there is one group at the end of the report that shows people who have done YDNA but are not expected to match in a Smith subgrouping;. That can be because it's someone named Brown, for example, and they match other Browns on YDNA but also may have joined the project because, on their autosomal test, they have a Smith line. So, their YDNA results are not necessariliy relevant to the yDNA chart for those who are male and are Smith. One other thing about this report that is great is that there is a column that shows that type of test the member took, ie, Y-DNA67 or perhaps Big-Y-700. As always, if you think you see an error in the way your kit was grouped (by the admins of the project) or see someone else you believe might be IN your group or a new group created for, please email There is someone who left a comment on the forum regarding a particular line but did not emaill. I have been so busy I have not had time to go look carefully at what was said, but if that person would please email so that it is in a queue, would appreciate it. Also, and this may be a result of putting a required login on some functions of this site due to this huge amount of spam bots that attempt to overrun it, but had an increase in people joining the project over the last few weeks. If that is you, be aware that adding your information to the site requires that you send in your line since the point of this site is comparison. In other words, will assume you didn't register in order to actively participate with a tree or DNA results. If this is not accurate, then please email info@smithsworldwide.org with your lineage. If you celebrate Thanksgiving, happiness to you. |
