Search here Are you looking for your YDNA information or someone else's YDNA kit in the Smith Official DNA Project at FamilyTreeDNA? Click here Are you looking for the custom groups on the Smith Official DNA Project pages on smithsworldwide.org? (Custom groups also include members with YDNA, Autosomal, mtDNA or tree only results. Autosomal, mtdna dna tree only are not necessarily verified) Click here Are you wanting to participate in the big tree on smithsworldwide.org? 1. To Add or Edit information on the project at smithsworldwide.org, you must be registered AND have sent your line. Click here to register for a new account on smithsworldwide.org, the Smith Official DNA Project tree site. 2. We then create a *branch* for you and tie your registration to the branch. You will be able to edit people in your own branch but not anywhere else. Ie, if you do not see the EDIT link, be sure you have registered and sent a tree. Also, it might be that if you cannot edit a person, he or she is not included in your branch-ask the admins to re-run the branch. If problems, contact the project at info@smithsworldwide.org Have you done DNA with 23andme or Ancestry and wish to include your results for matching on FamilyTreeDNA? Click here to read about autosomal transfer When you join the Smith DNA project, whether with DNA or submitting a tree, your line is compared with what is already in our extensive files on the tree project site (smithsworldwide.org) for the Smith DNA Project for FamilyTreeDNA TNG is the sofware used to help manage such a large project. Rather than create a new, redundant tree for each person, we look to see if you already fit into an existing one. We also check to see if there are any DNA conflicts, ie, one person with one result conflicts with another even if the trees are simliar. If there is already that family or person(s), then you are added, if not, then a new line is put in, and a new branch is created for you that includes your pedigree, groups you belong to, and links to other relevant information, ie, an index or pointer file to help you navigate. TNG is set up as all one tree-think of it as a “We” tree, rather than an “I” tree. We want to collaborate, work out true relationships, correct mistakes and annotate those we have questions about. TNG is not intended to be a repository for individual trees, with redundancy (You know what I mean if you have been to a site where there are many trees for the same line but some of the information is different, including possible conflicting early ancestors) . If you have a tree on some other site, such as Ancestry, or FamilyTreeMaker, Rootsweb, etc, be sure to put the link to that tree in your profile on the Smith DNA project.(Please do not put links to other sites on the FamilyTreeDNA Most Distant Known Ancestor field as that field is shared amongst ALL projects-if you would like to put in a link or other information or advertising for other sites, please do it in your FTDNA profile in the personal information field)
We have a form you can use to submit your tree or you can send it to info@smithsworldwide.org as a direct line, starting with the earliest Smith that you have proof for, including spouses, dates and locations, down to you (you can leave off anyone born after 1900 for privacy reasons, if you like). You will also need to register on TNG so that we can assign your part of the tree to you for adding and editing changes. Being registered and tied to a branch also allows others who are registered to contact you. If you do not intend to send a lineage, you can still register on the site to post a query but will not be able to edit or add any information to any tree-you can view information or suggest changes to existing information as a guest to any line you see. In some cases, there are multiple people who have the same line with different descents-if there is a contact person for that line or group, and your information conflicts with existing information, we endeavor to get you both together for discussion purposes, to come to a resolution. The resolution might be to put in a note that there is disagreement, but we strive for consensus without altering information that might not be factual. You will be able to login but again, to participate in the tree section, you need to send a direct line. After you do, your branch will be checked out and your registration will be updated to include the branch. You will then be sent an email. You might also get questions from a Smith admin to confirm the line.
