One of the Smith DNA members has been looking for his ancestors and believes the earliest he can prove is Albert B Smith b Nov 1852 PA d 1934 Lake Co SD, buried in Graceland Cemetery, Madison Co, SC. Here is the upline

Possibly this Albert B Smith is related to Franklin Labon Smith b 1838 Ontario Co NY m Amanda M Richardson in 1860 in McHenry Co IL . And it also appears that the Ann E McMahon on the 1870 Woodstock/Greenwood/Henry Co IL census might be kin to Augusta A Smith - A Thomas McMahon married an Ann/Nancy Dyer in McHenry Co IL on 21 Apr 1851. On the other hand, besides the Frank Smith and Amanda M Richardson family, perhaps the other people are farm labour hired to help on his farm and if Augusta A Smith is the same as the Achsah in a previous census in Laban Smith’s family, perhaps Augusta Smith is Frank’s sister. However, what raises the flag that Albert B Smith is not kin is that he was, according to the census, born in PA and so were his parents.

From a Smith DNA standpoint, this member matches into Group R-M269-59 which includes descendants of John Blue Smith d 1719 NY m Sarah Strickland, an unknown Smith in Chenango Co NY, Daniel Smith b 1794 NY m Mary Ann Jarvis, Ludlow Smith b 1813 NY m Mary and Joseph Smith b 1762 VA m Margaret (Hardin Co KY) There is also a location map for people who have either tested or are assumed to match because of being in the descent line.

I have developed timelines on some of the above men.  We are scheduled to go to Fargo & Wahpeton, ND, and to three S. Dak. counties in mid July.  I will be researching in courthouses, libraries & historical societies primarily.  If you are interested, I will share the highlights of that research.
