    This Indenture made this 1st day of October 1762 between John Morgain of the Parish of Meherrin in the County of Brunswick and likewise Henry Arthur Smith & Richard Smith of the County of Brunswick of the one part & Benjamin Sykes of the same Parish and County of the other part . . . for and in consideration of the sum of two hundred pounds . . . doth grant bargain sell alien enfeoff and confirm unto the said Benjamin Sykes . . . all that plantation tract or parcel of land containing fore [sic] hundred and sixty acres by patent situate lying and being in the Parish and County aforesaid and on South side of Meherrin River and as followeth (to wit) BEINING [sic] as his own corner red oak thence along his line North thirty nine degrees East twenty fore [sic] poles to a pine thence off West thirty eight poles to Jones corner red oak thence along his line Sout [sic] seventy fore [sic] degrees West sixty fore [sic] to a wite [sic] oak on a branch thence up the said branch as it meanders to a pine on the same thence South fore [sic] degrees East eight poles to Howell Briggs corner pine South seventy one degrees East ninety two poles to his corner pine thence seven degrees East 234 poles to a spanish oak at the Beaver Pond Creek thence down the meanders of the said creek to Fountains Creek thence up the water course of the said Fountains Creek to the mouth of the Cattail Creek thence up the meanders of the said Cattail Creek to the BEGINNING . . . Signed by John Morgain (his mark), Henry Arthur Smith (his mark), and Richard Smith (his mark), Barbary Morgain (her mark) and Amy Smith (her mark), and witnessed by George Rives, William Mosse and Thomas Mosse. Brunswick County Court September 24th 1792. William Massey being sworn deposes and saith that he saw Thomas Massey subscribe his name hereto as a witness at the time he subscribed his and the same having been proved on the 25th day of October 1762 by the oaths of the said William Massey and George Rives also witnesses thereto the same is ordered to be recorded.
