  • Notes
    • Thomas being son of Samuel Smith d 1799 based on a few factors. First, YDNA- the descendants of this Thomas Smith m Sally Jenkins match into the group GRP-E-M2_-3 which traces descent from Nicholas Smith 1667 Gloucester Co VA. Second, a Thomas SMith is mentioned in the will of Samuel Smith b 1734 Bedford Co VA m Anne Wilkinson and appears to have passed away before then. Third, in a court action dated 1800 in minutes of Washington District Superior Court of TN from Stephen Wood of Franklin Co VA who had married Anne Smith b c 1740, daughter of Samuel SMith and Grissel Coleman, some depositions were issued in Georgia. "In analyzing the facts, you can see why I think that your Thomas Smith might be the Thomas Smith mentioned in the will. Although it doesn't say it outright, it would appear that Thomas Smith was deceased in 1798, since his children were heirs. Also, the fact that depositions were issued in Georgia would indicate someone who had knowledge of the debt, i.e. someone who had previously lived in Franklin Co VA, now lived in GA.- Tim Upton
