    • Fleming Thomas Smith Sr. died in LeCompte, Louisiana at his home on April 20, 1905. He was born in Hancock county, Mississippi, Jan. 22, 1836 and moved with the family to Louisiana when 6 years old.
      He moved to Jasper county, Texas where he married Martha Ann Jean at the age of 22 and in 1861 moved to Calcasieu parish, Louisiana.
      At the beginning of the Civil War he enlisted in the confederate army and served the entire term of the war.
      In 1893 he moved to Rapides parish.
      His wife died in 1879 and he married again in 1881 to Mathilda Jane Muse. The issue of his first marriage was eleven children; three girls and eight boys (2 have died) The issue of his second marriage is six children (3 have died)
