- Born in Chicago, Cook County, at a house at 63rd Place and Danty Ave. Address was either 6301 or 6302. Walter’s children were unaware that he had been member of the United Automobile Workers of America when he was younger. It is unknown when he joined the Union but he withdrew his membership on 9 Feb 1942.

Walter Smith
Walter R. Smith , 87, of Evansville, died at 2:55 a.m. Wednesday at Welborn Baptist Hospital.
He was a salesman for Western Chemical Co. and a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church.
He was a 50-year member of Evansville Masonic Lodge 64. He was a member of York Rite, Hadi Shrine and the Hadi Shrine Color Guard.
Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Mabel; a daughter, Marcia Grabert of Doniphan, Mo.; two sons, Marvon L. Smith of Danville, Ky., and Robert W. Smith of Ferguson, Mo.; a brother, C.W. Smith of Colorado Springs, Colo.; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Alexander Funeral Home East Chapel, the Rev. George Purnell officiating, with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home, where Evansville Masonic Lodge 64 will conduct a memorial service at 7 p.m.,
