  Mabel’s parents wanted her to go to Manchester, IN College but she and Walter wanted to get married. They eloped on June 17th 1928 to Valparaiso, IN and were married by F.R. Briggs, Minister. Their witnesses were Harry A. and Evalyn Grieger. They were married about a month before telling anyone. OBITUARIES Evansville Courier, The (IN) - September 20, 2002 Mabel Smith Mabel E. Smith , 92, of Evansville, died Saturday, Sept. 14, 2002, at Little Sisters of the Poor. Surviving are a daughter, Marcia Grabert; son Marvon L.; two sisters, Betty McMacken and Frances; and eight grandchildren. Services 2 p.m. Saturday at Oak Hill Mausoleum, entombment in Oak Hill Cemetery. There will be no visitation at Alexander Funeral Home East Chapel. Donations may be made to Little Sisters of the Poor., ,
