I am a descendent of Sarah Smith (1777-1869) whose parents were Drury Erastus Smith (1745-1822) and Elizabeth Vaughn (1749-1796).

She married Jesse Mays on 13 NOV 1796 in Henry, Virginia. (per pension application)

They moved to Maury County, Tennessee and lived at Leiper's Lick Creek. They had four boys and four girls.

Jesse served in the War of 1812 after being drafted at the age of 37 in November, 1814. He served in the Battle of New Orleans where he contracted the Measles. Waiting for transport to his home in Maury Co., TN, he died in Baton Rouge, LA, March 19, 1815.

Sarah never remarried and took her children to Perry Co, TN where her eldest son Abraham had a farm. Sarah received pension benefits. She stayed in Perry County over 30 years and moved to Spring Creek, Madison County, TN to her son David's home where she died on 19 JAN 1868.
