That older Samuel Smith was a son of Lt. John Smith and the widow Mrs. Jane (Cock) Jones. Lt. John Smith was the only surviving son of Alexander Smith. Alexander Smith also fathered a surviving daughter named Rachel Smith (married John Wyatt).
