    • Lorenz (or Lorenzo) Freiderich (Frederick) Schmidt (Smith) BIRTH 1777 Bavaria (Bayern), Germany DEATH 1822 (aged 44รข?"45). Lorenzo Fredrick Smiith 1. was born in Ansbach Bavaria in what is now West Germany. In 1777.he came to this country.with the Ansbach Regiments to fight in the American Revolution.with the British.He fought several battles.and his regiments was surrendered by Cornallis to Washington at Yorktown.He was held prisoner until 1783 at which time the peace treaty was signed.Upon his release.he apparently moved to Lovettsville.VA.He married and lived there until 1803. During this time eight of his twelve children were born.In 1803 Lorenzo Smith moved to Dry River at Fulks Run,VA. where he purchased 132 acres of land .Later Lorenzo moved to Bennetts Run where he lived until his death. on Oct 24, 1807 Lorenzo Smith bought a 143 acre tract of land on Bennetts Run from Adam Harter.This was about the time Lorenzo moved to Bennetts Run.In addition to Acquring land and raising a family.Lorenzo Fredrick Smith 1 taught school.helped to organize the Dovesville Bergton Lutheran Church.and wrote a number of legal documents for the residents of the Brocks Gap area. from Pamela Jill Holic
